Rachael Tonks is a new to the scene author with a love of books, and a particular love of the romance genre. As a child Rachael could always be found with her head in a book, but it wasn’t until the beginning of 2015 when Rachael’s love of books really took over. Reading spurred on her desires to put pen to paper, and write down the story of the characters screaming for their story to be told. Starting out her career with a new adult romance novel, she is currently working on her third novel which she plans to release November 2016. Rachael lives in the steely suburb of Sheffield, in the north of England with her husband, 3 beautiful children and her 2 crazy dogs. A Whisper of Rage

The heavyset man had edged away from his Mustang, but now he quickly jumped back to it. He opened the passenger door and was reaching inside when the sedan jerked to a stop at the entrance of the parking lot.

And then I saw guns.

A fistful of panic punched my heart into my throat. I stopped in my tracks. The shooting came in a couple of quick bursts. Four, maybe five rounds, two of which sprang from the large man’s gun. One before he went down, the other as he cringed on the pavement. The last shot chased the car away as someone on the passenger’s side fell from the window. Tires screeching, the white sedan swerved from left to right, then burned past me.

I stood there like an idiot, not running for cover, not hitting the ground, wide open on the edge of the bayou. They could’ve taken a shot at me. I was a witness, or was it a spectator, a one-man audience? Exposed and vulnerable, I felt dazed like a deer caught in a poacher’s headlight. But now lights were off and a heavy silence filled the violent cracks of gunfire.

There was no traffic. No sirens. There were no planes growling by or police helicopters incessantly searching for criminals. The skyline was before me. Houston, Texas, a city in a coma. I shook my head. I shook it again, then began running, recklessly, half stumbling toward the man lying on the pavement beside the Mustang.

It felt like an uphill run into a stiff, hot wind. My legs were soft and numb, exhausted. As I drew close, I saw the man had a thick neck and almost no hair on his head. He wore a plain white T-shirt covered with yellow sweat stains and threadbare black shorts with pencil holes on the thighs. His sneakers weren’t Reeboks as I’d originally thought, but black high-tops, court shoes a basketball player would wear. I placed him in his fifties and, despite the big paunch, he had the look of a football coach or ex-Marine.

“Oh, Christ,” I prayed. My breathing was thick. His disgusting T-shirt over his big belly was soaked with blood and his eyes were closed. A huge gun was still clenched in his hand.

Last time I reached out toward a broken body, it was my best friend’s. And all I felt was cold. I touched this man’s meaty shoulder, not expecting a physical chill as much as a shiver from an empty shell losing its heat. “Oh, God, are you alive?”

His eyes popped open. The hand with the gun started to rise, then paused and fell to the ground. “I ain’t sure,” he drawled, his eyes widening then squinting as he focused in on me. “I ain’t sure at all.”

“I’ll go call an ambulance,” I said quickly.

“No!” he barked, his empty hand reaching up to me. “There ain’t no phone around here.”

“Don’t you have one in your car?”

“No service.”

“You’ve got to get me out of here.”

“What if they come back?”

“Get me out of here.”

“Doesn’t look like I have much of a choice.”

“You’re right, son,” he said, slightly nodding his head, “you don’t.” He grimaced and tried to sit. I grabbed him under his shoulder, pulled, and steadied him. With his empty hand he clutched his stomach, and soon blood was seeping through his fingers. So much for Willie Nelson, I thought as I took off my T-shirt, wadded it up, and slipped it under his hand and onto his wound.

‘‘Goddamn.” He winced, gulping air, and he tipped his head back and looked straight up at the milky sky. He sat with one knee bent, the other leg stretched out. I noticed scar tissue by his eyes. “Son,” he said, again trying to bring my face into focus, “you got to get me the hell out of here.”

“I am.”

He glanced at the gun in his hand. “I think I nailed him, too.”

‘‘Some consolation,” I muttered.

“Want me to take that from you?” I asked, nodding at the huge gun.

“No.” He paused. “I don’t know where my keys are.”

I reached over and pushed the car door closed. It hadn’t offered much protection, I thought as I noticed a deep, dark bullet hole. The keys weren’t in the lock.

“It’s all right,” I told him. “We’ll take my car.”

“You ready?” he demanded, as if I were the one holding us back.

“On three,” I said. And as we counted, a low, guttural grunt of pain escaped him as he forced himself to stand. It took every ounce of strength I had to help him. I was a good four or five inches taller than this man and fairly strong, but his iron bulk made him difficult to maneuver. It felt as if I had an anvil on my shoulder as I staggered the few yards toward my Bug.

“What’s your name, son?” he managed to ask.

“Neil Marshall. What’s yours?”

“C. J. McDaniels.”

How to Motivate more Amazon Follows

Any thoughts?

Amazon Following

Amazon just announced a new tool designed to help authors generate many more Amazon followers.

First, let me give a little background:

  • Customers can follow their favorite authors directly at
  • It seems ideal for both customers and authors, EXCEPT…
  • Unfortunately, most customers don’t think to do this.
  • Customers need to visit the author page and click the button to follow the author. Few do it, presently.
  • Amazon lets you send an email to your Amazon followers after publishing a new Kindle edition. But first, you need Amazon followers.

So just imagine how awesome it would be IF…

  • Amazon offered a tool to help authors generate more Amazon follows.
  • Through this tool, Amazon motivated customers to follow authors.
  • Many customers took advantage of this opportunity to follow authors of interest.
  • Amazon follows rose from a mere dozen to hundreds or thousands for many authors.

Medically discharged from the service and suffering from PTSD, Carter Montgomery is still trying to get his life back in order…

When Carter’s father Jackson suggests a week at the lake, it’s not only so he can gain a little clarity about his future. Jackson has other plans for his recovering son, intending for him to watch over his best friend’s daughter while she’s on a solo writing retreat—an idea that doesn’t please Carter at all.

Patty finds it hard to get any work done when her attention keeps diverting to the handsome stranger next door…

Patty is persuaded to attend a charity event, despite knowing her ex will be in attendance. When Ben rudely interrupts Patty’s dance with her father and drags her off the floor, Carter is quick to intervene. He’s tired of admiring Patty from afar, and refuses to see her treated that way. Ready to ditch the stuffy event, Patty escapes with her savior someplace where they can finally talk.

Ben always gets what he wants, and he isn’t willing to let Patty slip away…

Patty fights to preserve her blooming relationship with Carter from the critical eyes of her mother and the scheming ways of her ex. Will Carter manage to get his life back in order in time to save Patty from the life she never wanted?

“Wait, I’m sorry. I’m being a total bitch and I don’t mean to.” I pause as I try to gain some control. My voice softens, “I’m Patricia. My friends call me Patty.”
He turns back with a gorgeous glowing smile that lights up his face. “Carter,” he says. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Patty.

Alison Mello
Alison Mello is a wife and stay at home mom to a wonderful little boy. She lives with her amazing family in Massachusetts. She loves playing soccer, basketball and football with her son.

After having her son, Alison started reading again and fell in love with Contemporary Romance. Reading made her happy and gave her something to do when she had downtime. As she started to read more, she started to noticed things she really enjoyed in a book and things she didn’t. She began to have ideas for writing one of her own. One day she literally woke up and started writing. She realized that if there was ever a time for her to write, it was now. She had a part time job to give her something to do. The hours at work were slow and she was bored with what she was doing, so while her son was off enjoying his friends over summer vacation she got started.

Alison finished the first book in two weeks and decided that she really enjoyed writing, so she kept going. She already had ideas in mind for books two and three, so she kept writing. That is how the Learning to Love Series was born. Somewhere along the line, one of my Beta readers convinced me that Michael, a character from Finding Love, needed his own story. That is when Alison added the fourth and final book. Alison hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

She’s so glad she started this writing journey and hopes you will stay with her for the ride. Chasing Dreams is scheduled to release in April and the first two books of the Love Conquers Life series will be out this summer!

Sleepless Fate Author: Janae Keyes

Title: Sleepless Fate
Author: Janae Keyes
Genre: Adult Romance
Release Date: May 29, 2016

Should a person have to put their life on hold for another. Another, they planned to spend the rest of their life with? Another who has been in a coma for the past two years?

Brielle Elliot has spent the past two years at the side of her comatose fiancé Keaton. Life is moving on around Brielle, but she has been dedicated to Keaton until Patrick comes into her life. It seems as if Fate has brought these two together, but others have their own idea of how their story should end.

LEAVING THE RESTAURANT, I was surely inebriated after all of the very expensive wine we had over dinner. No matter how drunk I was, I could say that this was the best I’d felt in a long time. I strolled along with Patrick by my side. The two of us walked on a bridge that crossed the river. Patrick at once stopped walking and I turned to him.
“What’s up?” I asked as he walked to the railing and looked down at the water.
“It is all so amazing you know,” He continued to look at the water as he spoke. “It is so amazing how you can be so dedicated to a man who may never wake up,”
“He would do the same for me,” I insisted just hoping it would be true. Inside I felt like it could be. I felt as if the tables were turned that Keaton would wait for me.
“Are you absolutely certain of that fact?” Patrick questioned, finally no longer looking at the water, but looking at me directly in the eyes.
“Yes… no… I just know that he and I love each other. I have hope that he would wait for me,” I admitted my uncertainty out loud.
Patrick chuckled. “Has anyone ever told you that you are bat-shit crazy?”
“Plenty of times,” I answered with a straight face. I knew April told me at least once a week and she insisted that I try and move on with my life.
“Brielle…” he breathed my name out. “You are one of a kind and I’m trying here. I am trying to just be your friend, but damn it… I’m hooked on you. Tell me I’m crazy,”
“You are crazy,”
“I’m crazy about you. That is for sure,”
“Patrick, I..,”
“I need to know if this could be real. If the feelings, I am having are justified. Kiss me and tell me you don’t feel a thing. If you don’t I’ll leave you alone,” He was now giving me some sort of ultimatum.
“I’m not doing that,” I shook my head fiercely. “I’m not–,” I didn’t get a chance to finish as Patrick’s lips were pressed roughly against mine. I could honestly say I’d never felt anything like this kiss before. My heart was pounding and every nerve-ending in my body felt so alive and filled with raw electricity. I craved more of what he could give me. I threw my arms around his neck and his hands gripped tightly at my waist. His tongue slipped between my lips and I allowed it in. I needed all he could give me and I was going to take it all in.
Drip Drop, Drip, Drop… it started to rain. We ignored the drops of wetness that were falling faster and harder with each passing moment. We were too caught up in one another. He nibbled at my bottom lip, eliciting a moan from deep inside of my throat. No kiss had ever made me react this way. There was no doubt that my panties were wet and not from the rain. Patrick at once broke the kiss and took me by the hand. I loved the way his hand seemed to cradle mine.
“Come on,” He said giving me a smile.
We ran together through the rain, right back to the hotel. Though we were both soaking wet, we were on fire for one another. I watched Patrick fight to get the room key from his pocket. He unlocked the door and allowed me inside. He nearly kicked the door closed before he grabbed me by the hips and pulled me back to him.
We kissed fiercely as he worked to shimmy me from my soaking wet dress. I worked my fingers along the buttons of his shirt and undid them all before I grabbed at his belt fighting to get it unbuckled.
I stepped back from him for a moment and there I could finally see him. His abs were sculpted and toned up to his chest. My breath caught as I took in the sight before me. He grinned as he dropped his pants and stepped out of them. It took no time before he was pulling me towards him. His hands slipped along my curves, taking them all in.
I wondered if this night would be like any of my dreams. The dreams that had been haunting me, but also enticing me for weeks now. With every dream I had I wanted him more and now I finally had him.
The only things left covering my body were my bra and panties. Patrick lay me down on the couch and came over me. I wrapped a leg around him and felt his arousal pressing against me. He was craving me as much as I was craving him. His lips were on mine once again and a growl erupted from his throat. I smiled against his lips running my hands up his toned chest. I opened my eyes determined to look into his eyes, but a distinctive sparkle caught my attention and I froze.
The sparkle was from my ring, my engagement ring. The token of love and devotion given to me by Keaton, but here I was about to give myself to another man. Dread, disgust, and hate spread through my body as I pushed away from Patrick. I scurried off to my dress and picked it up off the floor.
“Brielle, babe. What’s happened?” Patrick asked with confusion written all over his face.
“I’m fucking engaged. That is what happened,” I asserted. I couldn’t believe that any of this had happened. I’d allowed it to happen and for that I was wrong.

Someone had to do this, and it sure as hell wasn’t going to be Adam. I breathed in and closed my eyes, only opening them as I exhaled and put one foot in front of the other. The key was hot from the heat of my body as it shook its way into the door knob. The metal clunked, and the wooden door swung open, leaving me staring at the empty room once filled with happiness. My eyes rushed over it as my mind flashed with memories, and my feet somehow continued in–all the way to Bobby’s bedroom door. My chest constricted and stars popped in my vision as I swung it open. I found myself blinking rapidly as my eyes wandered the room, stopping on the dresser where frames contained pictures of Adam and me, Bobby and me, the three of us, and then Tara and Bobby. My feet yet again propelled me forward, but I stopped as I breathed in, choking on the air.
My body warmed as my chin trembled and I breathed in again.
There it was again.
Bobby. The room smelled like him.
My eyelashes fluttered against my cheeks as the scent encircled me. Bath and Body Works’ Twilight Woods. The cologne we picked together when we were twelve. For fifteen years he’d worn it, even after Tara told him she hated it.
My eyes opened and moved to the hockey jersey hanging half out of a drawer–exactly where he left it that morning. My knees shook, and I found myself sitting on the bed staring at it. I reached forward, and the worn fabric embraced me as I brought it up to my chest. I pursed my lips together as the tears gathered and I pulled the jersey over my head, engulfing myself in his scent–it was embedded into this clothes despite constant washing. In my memories, his laughter carried through the room. It wasn’t the first time I wore one of his jerseys. I closed my eyes and curled into a ball on his bed.
“So you remember it too?” Bobby’s voice reached my ears, and the darkness behind my lids drifted away, parting until it was him and me in the tree house. I sat up on the bed, looking at him as he smirked at me from the edge of it. “See the thing is, I imagined it like this–you know? You practically naked;” his teeth ran over his bottom lip as his eyes ran up my legs, barely covered by my sleeping shorts. “in my jersey.”
He moved forward and his hand cupped my chin as his thumb caught a tear. “You weren’t crying in my fantasies, though. You cry so much now, Riv. I don’t want you to cry.”
I closed my eyes as my vision blurred from the weight of them, burdened by the false warmth of his touch.
“I’ve lost myself just as much as I’ve lost you,” I whispered, trying to memorize the feeling of his soft hands against my skin. So caring and loving when everything seemed so cold now. “All my dreams are shattered without you.”
Bobby’s hands reached for my face, turning it, so I was looking at him. He was beginning to waiver in and out, and panic burned its way up my throat.
He was going to leave.
But this was so real.
“Please don’t leave,” I said, and the tears and clenching of my throat made the words as physically painful as they were emotional.
“I thought all my dreams shattered when I found out Adam was with you–and it was over for me–that I didn’t have any more chances. My dreams realigned, though, Riv–they changed, refit into even better dreams. I expect you to do the same,” he said, and he was fading faster; his body just a wisp and his touch a mere warmth with nothing substantial behind it.
“But Adam–“
“You’ll figure out what to do, it might be hard, but in the end, it will work out. You and him are what’s left of me. Remember that. Together you make me whole,” he said, and his lips reached for my cheek, sending heat through my body as he disappeared.
“Bobby!” I yelled, and suddenly I was sitting straight up in the bed sobbing, the warmth of his lips against my cheek a stinging pain. I leaned back, pulling my knees to my chest and cried until the darkness consumed me.
This time, Bobby’s warmth didn’t return.
Cassandra doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t writing. In fact, the first time she was published was when she was seven years old and won a contest to be published in an American Girl Doll novel. Since then Cassandra has written more novels than she can count and put just as many in the circular bin. Her personal goal with her writing is to show the reader the character’s stories through their dialogue and actions instead of just telling the reader what is happening. Besides being a writer, Cassandra is a professional photographer known for her automotive, nature and architectural shots. She is happily married to the man of her dreams and they live in the rolling hills of New England with their dogs, Bubski and Kanga.

Cassandra Giovanni is published by Show n’ot Tell Publishing based out of Connecticut, USA
